Asst. Superintendent:

Following the 8:30am Contemporary Praise Service, adults and children have a chance to go down to Fellowship Hall and share some coffee and chat. Sunday School classes run from 9:45am to 10:55am enabling those who wish to attend the Traditional Service at 11am to do so.

Preschool & K - Allison Bailey
1st & 2nd Grade - Tracey Moore-Higbee
3rd & 4th Grade - Mike Childers & Dustin Boyce
5th & 6th Grades - Charlotte Frazer
Jr. & Sr. High - Kris Shonewolf & Bob Contino
Grade Level: ADULT
  • Teachers: B. J. Peters & Donna Todd
  • Topic of Study: I Corinthians - Studied by discussing the text along with reading what John Wesley had to say about the verses by reading his commentary. Also, we'll be referencing a study obtained online. It's authored by Roger Hahn, Professor of New Testament and Academic Dean at Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri; he has earned the PhD in Biblical Studies, has served in pastoral ministry, and more than 25 years in educational ministry. The study itself is not intended to be comprehensive or a complete commentary on the biblical passages, but rather a survey of the basic story line, a brief analysis on the features of the text that serve to communicate its message, and a summary of the theological communication of the passages as a basis for further reflection. MUCH discussion by class members is involved. This is a VERY informal class.
  • Location: In Fellowship Hall. Come down the stairs from any entrance to the church to find it. From the sanctuary you'd come down the stairs near the door where you entered the church. From the other entrances come through the kitchen to find it. Keep your coffee to sip as we chew on the Scripture passages at hand.

Have you been thinking that you need to either start reading the Bible, or have considered joining a small group for study and discussion? Why not join us in our quest to discover what the Bible has to say to us as individuals?

Our class structure runs on the casual side with LOTS of discussion. Because of this, it's a great opportunity to get to know some of the other folk that worship at Whatcoat whether you're new to the church or have attended for years. Feel free to drop in on a class any week. If you can't make it every week, some study is better than no study.

Grade Level: ADULT

  • Teachers:Tom Van Drunen
  • Topic of Study:"If you Want To Walk On Water You Have To Get Out of The Boat"
  • Location: Room at top of stairs in Sunday School wing.

Our current study is on the Book by John Ortberg "If you Want To Walk On Water You Have To Get Out of The Boat". Far too many of us have put our faith in a casual Christianity that never compels us to leave our comfort zones. But, deep within our hearts we know that Jesus has not called us to comfort, but to an exciting, sacrificial and overwhelmingly fulfilling faith. In If You're Going to Walk on Water John Ortberg teaches us how to step out of the "boat" of casual Christianity so that we can faithfully follow the Lord who is calling us out onto the risky, exciting waters of the high seas. The curriculum is a combination of DVD with John Ortberg teaching, group discussion and reflection. Our group is of varying ages, culture and gender that leads to informative discussions. If you are looking for an challenging friendly group please join us on Sundays at 10:00.

Even if you can't make it to Tom's class, this is a great book for you to read at home.
